Still haven't landed a new engineering gig (or found anything really decent). Middle kid needed new specs (and starts braces this month too), oldest gets a root canal and crown.
I saw a Rem 870 Special Field 20 gauge on Gunbroker and it was mint too : (
Gotta let that one slide by, even if I sell a couple of my other rigs. Too much gone out this month (toy fund completely depleted, and then some).
Oh well, I'm good for turkey season, have the Switc

If we are planning a hunting trip that is out of state, should we consider taking out some form of
Travel Medical Insurance for the group. Some of the members already have
Health Insurance, but we have heard that it is a good idea to have consistent group coverage. Have you guys had this experience? Have you taken out a policy like this…

Had a small doe pop out close, was seated 18 ft up in my stand........around 8:30. Was content to watch, partner said he had her by him, text 'd a heads up about 20 min's earlier.
My bow had an arrow nocked, was hanging on a step -a hanger at proper height for standing (not a close reach).
So I decided to just kick back, stay still, scrunched a little left (away from bow) to hide my outline better- so deer coming from behind wouldn't see me sky lighted.
Hear a crunch and look straight down, a…

Went to my hunting partner's spot, hunted it late season twice in the past, first time for early bow season.
Get there at 7, am in stand quietly at 7:30 and have 5 deer come out of the thicket, about 50-60 yards out. I grunt call and a smallish doe comes into the woods, I pass on the 25 yard broadside shot.
A bigger doe eventually comes in, alert. She steps out from a line of big trees from me to her, exposing her front shoulders and just a bit of the lung/heart. 30 yards, the HHA/Viper sight…

Wow, as of this year we have to use non toxic shot on state dove fields.
I took the SPR310 20 gauge and today was day 2 of the season.
Birds were kinda high and running the edge of the mowed section, so they were out of range for steel. Lots of birds later, brush higher behind, many blasting past because you never knew they were coming until it was too late.
50 shell limit, and my cuz and I both for the first time ever, used all our shells. We flubbed some stuff early, but didn't take hardly…

Dude I know needed money (hey don't we all).
Sold a Remington Model 7 in .243, 20" light weight barrel, HS precision stock, Leupold VX2 3-9X with 40mm front. Looks like Burris nickel rings and bases.
He had the trigger adjusted unsafe. Light, he simply backed off the weight screw, and if you pulled the trigger while on safe it wouldn't trip, but flipping the safety off would let it "click". Remington…

Has anyone used these broadheads before? On bowcast.com they are saying they are the broadhead of choice for this year. I have never been a mechanical fan but thought about going to the RAGE this year. Now I see these XC-3's so I'm digging for information on both.
Any thoughts on either of these or any other broadheads that you think are superior will be greatly appreciated! Fire up, bow season is right around the corner!!

After the rollercoaster ride of spring, everything has leveled out in June. Most of the earth soaking rains and storms come to a halt, the weather turns hot, and the first fruits of the year are becoming ready for harvest. The gardens are growing good with fresh squash coming in first, soon to be followed by cucumbers and tomatoes. Early corn is starting to tassel and the wheat is brown and ready to cut. By the end of the month it will be gone and replaced with soybeans. Almost immediately the l…

OK, I bought one about 2 years ago.
Up until this early summer it was flawless. Shooting feathers I heard it sound a bit funny, and fogged the dude next to me (he shooting at same bale) with remnant feather stuff.
My rest failed to drop.
The problem? I was using the supplied "football" clamp on my cables. I never had a problem in maybe 500 shots on my Hoyt, but then it failed all at once, after 100 shots on my Mathews.
I discarded the clamp and served the rope into my cable. Problem solved.…

Not in the "For sale" section but.........
I have 3 bows for sale (this year's hunting bow is a Mathews Switchback XT).
I pulled most of the accessories off my '05 Hoyt Protec. I haven't shot the Protec much, less than 1500 shots in the 4 years I've had it. It's 65% let off, has XT 2000 limbs, is 26.5-29" draw (feels a little short, so I can't run it as a fingers bow). 60-70#, is right handed and has a Fuse two pc quiver. I got it new, was first one in the state in the "Safari" color. It's a t…

May is the unofficial start of summer in Kentucky. Everything has greened up, bushed out, and bloomed that’s going to and the weather is getting pert near hot, with no chance of frost until sometime this fall. Early corn is planted in April and corn planted now is just corn. The wheat is heading out, tall, and will be turning brown by the end of the month. In times past, if the tobacco farmers didn’t have their tobacco set by the second week of May, it was considered a late crop. It’s not that w…

April in Kentucky is an “in between” month. The weather is usually starting to level out as far as temperatures go, not the rollercoaster ride of last month, but not the warmer temps to come either. Just more steady. Farmers are working like crazy to get that early corn out. We still have our share of cold fronts coming through but they don’t last long and the water in the lakes and ponds start to warm. Somewhere around early to mid month the dogwoods bloom and that means the crappie are spawnin…

March is a time of awakening. The first notable sign are the March flowers blooming. The bright yellow cups stand out brilliantly next to the barren dead landscape of winter. Although the weather is still cool, the extended cold winter temperatures are gone. It’s like a rollercoaster ride; one day 70 degrees and the next its 40 degrees. It’s frustrating wishing the weather would make up its mind what it wants to do, but that’s the time of year it is. As if someone flipped a switch, the Redbuds,…

January & February is a slow time in Kentucky. Deer season is over. Quail and rabbit seasons are still open but not many people do that anymore. Trapping runs until the end of February, but not many people do that anymore either. The woods are laid bare and all the previous year’s activity can be easily seen. Winter in other areas has its own challenges. Up north has its snows and the activities that go along with it, farther south it seems fall passes directly into spring with no appearance…
