Went to my hunting partner's spot, hunted it late season twice in the past, first time for early bow season. Get there at 7, am in stand quietly at 7:30 and have 5 deer come out of the thicket, about 50-60 yards out. I grunt call and a smallish doe…

Wow, as of this year we have to use non toxic shot on state dove fields. I took the SPR310 20 gauge and today was day 2 of the season. Birds were kinda high and running the edge of the mowed section, so they were out of range for steel. Lots of bi…

Bad month!

Still haven't landed a new engineering gig (or found anything really decent). Middle kid needed new specs (and starts braces this month too), oldest gets a root canal and crown.

I saw a Rem 870 Special Field 20 gauge on Gunbroker and it was mint too : (

Gotta let that one slide by, even if I sell a couple of my other rigs. Too much gone out this month (toy fund completely depleted, and then some).

Oh well, I'm good for turkey season, have the Switc

Doe down 10-19

Had a small doe pop out close, was seated 18 ft up in my stand........around 8:30. Was content to watch, partner said he had her by him, text 'd a heads up about 20 min's earlier.

My bow had an arrow nocked, was hanging on a step -a hanger at proper height for standing (not a close reach).

So I decided to just kick back, stay still, scrunched a little left (away from bow) to hide my outline better- so deer coming from behind wouldn't see me sky lighted.

Hear a crunch and look straight down, a… Continue

Bad but OK day in the deer woods :-)

Went to my hunting partner's spot, hunted it late season twice in the past, first time for early bow season.

Get there at 7, am in stand quietly at 7:30 and have 5 deer come out of the thicket, about 50-60 yards out. I grunt call and a smallish doe comes into the woods, I pass on the 25 yard broadside shot.

A bigger doe eventually comes in, alert. She steps out from a line of big trees from me to her, exposing her front shoulders and just a bit of the lung/heart. 30 yards, the HHA/Viper sight… Continue

Steel shot sucks even on small birds!

Wow, as of this year we have to use non toxic shot on state dove fields.

I took the SPR310 20 gauge and today was day 2 of the season.

Birds were kinda high and running the edge of the mowed section, so they were out of range for steel. Lots of birds later, brush higher behind, many blasting past because you never knew they were coming until it was too late.

50 shell limit, and my cuz and I both for the first time ever, used all our shells. We flubbed some stuff early, but didn't take hardly… Continue

What to do.........have two .243's now

Dude I know needed money (hey don't we all).

Sold a Remington Model 7 in .243, 20" light weight barrel, HS precision stock, Leupold VX2 3-9X with 40mm front. Looks like Burris nickel rings and bases.

He had the trigger adjusted unsafe. Light, he simply backed off the weight screw, and if you pulled the trigger while on safe it wouldn't trip, but flipping the safety off would let it "click". Remington… Continue

A carload of hunters, looking for a place to hunt, pulled into a farmer's yard. The driver went up to the farmhouse to ask permission to hunt on his land. The old farmer said, "Sure you can hunt, but would you do me a favor? That old mule over there is 20 years old and sick with cancer, but I don't have the heart to kill her. Would you do it for me?
The hunter said, "Sure" and headed for the car. Walking back, however, he decided to pull a trick on his hunting buddies. He got into the car and when they asked if the farmer said it was OK, he said, "No, we can't hunt here, but I'm going to teach that old cuss a lesson." With that, he rolled down his window, stuck his gun out and blasted the mule. As he exclaimed, "There, that will teach him!" A second shot rang out from the passenger side and one of his hunting buddies shouted, "I got the cow!!!"
